WHO says the price for Greg-Zilla's services is prohibitive?

Sources told SPIN.ph that Greg Slaughter is now willing to accept a pay cut at Titan Ultra just so he can realize his bid to return to the PBA.

“Greg is now willing to take a huge pay cut, just for him to get that ticket back to the PBA. He really wants to go back to the league for his family and for himself,” said the source.

The same source revealed that Slaughter is even willing to take a paycheck that is slightly lower than his initial asking price at Titan Ultra, the team that inherited the signing rights of Slaughter from Northport.

Another source bared that the deal is within the allowable maximum pay of the PBA which is 450,000 per month.

“Hindi na isyu kay Greg kung magkano. Basta he wants to sign the contract and prove himself first. Ang dami ring nasasayang na oras sa career nya kaya 'yun ang napag-usapan namin na dapat gawin,” said another source.

“Yung value naman nya, it can rise depending on his performance and depending on where Titan Ultra can go deeper into the conference. Alam din ni Greg yun. And part of his sacrifices and show of remorse, kung may nagawan man siyang kasalanan yung maximum pay cut nya,“ he said.

Meanwhile, Titan Ultra team owner Bryann Calantoc told SPIN.ph he and Slaughter have kept in touch since their first meeting in the team's first practice for the Commissioner’s Cup.

“Yes, we have been talking to him. May mga inaayos lang kami but yes, Greg is always welcome to the team. This is his team and I hope he finds his way back to the PBA through Titan Ultra,” said the soft-spoken Calantoc, who bared that team governor Emil Tiu and team manager Bonnie Tan are the ones regularly contacting Slaughter.

“Greg will definitely give us the height we need. As you know, we lost Calvin (Abueva) recently because he wanted to be traded. So having Greg for the coming conference will be a big boost. He may not fill the energy void left by Calvin, but he can give us the size we never had,” he added.

At a shade below seven feet, Slaughter with his decent shooting touch and defensive value, Calantoc believes Titan Ultra can improve on their 9th place finish and 4-7 (win-loss) record in their PBA debut in the last Philippine Cup.

“If we agreed on the terms of the deal, we will sign the contract immediately and send it to the PBA. So, I hope there will be no more kinks. If okay na si Greg, and okay kami sa price, we will both sign on the dotted line,” he said.

Calantoc bared that since Slaughter showed up in their practice, there are already several teams inquiring on the status of the former Gilas Pilipinas big man.

Calantoc, however, stressed that Slaughter is not up for trade.

“Unless he asks for it, Greg is not tradeable. We want to make him the cornerstone of our team,” said Calantoc, the youngest PBA team owner at 37.
